Bio of Owner(s):
My name is Temeka, I’m 28 years old and I love fashion, especially jewelry of all sorts. I like to unwind and brainstorm once in awhile for brand new ideas whenever its for tiktok or instagram.
1- Why did you choose to start this business?
I wanted people to know that Celestial Inc does exist! My brain was filled with dreams and images for a nonexistent brand that was yet to be created and here I was holding the keys to unlock it! I always wanted to own my own boutique and to sell anything I wanted and set the tone for it but I didn’t think I was ready for such a task.However,I took matter into my own hands and I did what I had to do.
2- What was the most difficult thing you had to do while starting up your business?
They say you have to spend money to make money, and it wasn’t fun.Funding was very difficult at the time because I wasn’t getting paid much and I had to wait every two weeks just to gather everything I needed! I started on etsy( Which I currently still have til this day) and I was always pinching or withdrawing from savings just to be able to start it up!
3- What is the most rewarding part of owning/managing this business?
You are your own boss! It fills my heart to finally see how everything I imagined my business to be looks in not only my eyes, but other peoples too! I believe for me the best part of when you manage your own business, is that you have access to the creative control and never limited! The sky is the limit and you can make a schedule that works in your favor.
4- If you were to start over, what would you change?
The only thing I would change would be my mindset when I started. I was very comfortable because I was in my comfort zone really bad. I would express my ideas or thoughts and didn’t execute them. I would question whenever it was a good idea to start it, or if it was unrealistic, I just didn’t feel ready on ”my terms”. When really the whole time it wasn’t even about me all along, it was for Celestial Inc.
5- What inspires you to keep moving?
What inspires me to keep moving is my end goal I’m trying to reach and what I have potential for I always want better for myself and keep myself grounded daily for it .In general, I’m a self motivated, and self driven person.It doesn’t take much for me to get myself out of a drought when discouraged.
6- How do you manage between your business and personal life?
Oh thats very easy! So I usually set aside a certain time when I work on my business and still maintain my personal life. In the day, I post on my social media accounts and stay editing or so for a good 3 hours. When I’m satisfied with everything I can pretty much do as I please during the night.
7- How do you deal with competition in your business?
When it comes to competition, I don’t try to think about “competing” with another business because nothing really good comes from it. I learned with doing that it only makes me anxious to see what they will post and how I can compare its never ending cycle. While I’m too busy consuming my energy worrying about their next move, Celestial inc would just fade and I wouldn’t want that. If anything, I try to keep Celestial Inc in it’s own lane and focus on how I can make it better. I learn from the best but I wouldn’t let it go to as far as trying to compete. You have to be confident in your brand.
8- What is your advice for someone who is just starting or thinking of starting a new small business?
My advice would be to just start your business no matter what. Even if it doesn’t seem like it wont work.Just don’t even think, just do. You will be so proud of yourself for leaving that comfort zone and you just never know what good may come out of it! It sounds cliche’ but everyone has a niche and everyone has something to bring to the table. I would suggest that you first gather your information and know the steps it take and to stay consistent on your social media even if you think no one is watching! you got this! Don’t settle nor sell yourself short, your ideas could be someones prayers!
